Remembering Mets History: (2015) The Mets Eleven Game Win Streak
Sunday April 12th 2015:On this night Terry Collins New York Mets beat the Atlanta Braves 4-3 at Turner Field.
It was a good night and no one knew it at the time, but the start of some good things that would take the Mets all the way to the World Series.
On this night Bartolo Colon won his second game to go to 2-0, on his way to another 14 game winning season.
On this night, Jeurys Familia notched his first save, it was the start of him becoming one of the leagues best closers as he would save 43 games on the year, tying a Mets record.
And tonight was the start of the Mets 11 game win streak that would put them in first place & more importantly make them believe in themselves.
Also on this night, the legend of Bartolo Colon continued to grow as he would have a 4th inning RBI base hit. And Big sexy got even more popular.
April 13th- April 15th: The Mets home opener was an exciting one as their was lots of hope for the 2015 season. The Mets opened up a ten game home stand at Citi Field, starting out with a three game sweep of the lowly Philadelphia Phillies.
Jacob deGrom earned his first win, as he went into the 7th inning shutting out the Phillies along the way. Carlos Torres, Jerry Blevins & Jeurys Familia finished it off. Juan Lagares & Travis d'Arnaud provided the runs in the 2-0 win.
The next night, Matt Harvey got the win even though Mets nemesis Chase Utley hit two HRs off Mets pitching. But Lucas Duda's three RBIs led the charge for the 6-5 win. Michael Cuddyer, Travis d'Arnaud & Daniel Murphy also drove in runs.
The next night Lucas Duda & Travis d'Arnaud hit HRs & led the way to a 6-1 win, behind Jonathan Niese to complete the sweep.
April 16th- April 18th: The Miami Marlins rolled into town, and Giancarlo Stanton hit one of his long blast & Martin Prado did the same, both off Dillon Gee. But Wilmer Flores hit a three run shot in the 5th inning to tie it up, making it a whole new ball game. Michael Cuddyer had two RBI singles, with Lucas Duda & Eric Campbell contributing RBIs as well.
On Friday night, even though Giancarlo Stanton hit another 1st inning HR, Bartolo Colon continued his fine pitching, not allowing another run through his seven innings of work. Jerry Blevins held it for Jeurys Familia who earned his fifth save of the week. Colon even had a sac fly RBI in the 4-1 Mets win.
On Saturday, Jacob deGrom pitched seven shut out innings, while striking out eight & walking no one. The bullpen made it close but deGrom still earned the 5-4 win.
Travis d'Arnaud & Wilmer Flores led the way with HRs, as Juan Lagares & Eric Campbell added RBI hits.
The Mets completed the sweep on Sunday, extending the win streak to eight games. The Mets seven run 4th inning helped Matt Harvey earn the victory. In that inning Curtis Granderson & Travis d'Arnaud singled, then Lucas Duda walked.
With the bases loaded Daniel Murphy & Juan Lagares singled in runs. Kirk Nieuwenhuis drew a bases loaded walk for the Mets third run of the inning. Ruben Tejada provided the big blow with a bases clearing double. Travis d'Arnaud added another RBI single.
April 21st- April 23rd: The Mets hosted the Atlanta Braves for the final three games of the home stand. On Tuesday night, Curtis Granderson collected three hits while driving in four runs. Jonathon Niese also had himself an RBI base hit, as he went on to earn his second win on the season to get to 2-0.
On Wednesday night, the Mets had a fine comeback win. In the bottom of the 7th inning, Wilmer Flores tied the game with a HR off Cody Martin. Flores had driven in the Mets first run earlier in the game. In the 8th, Curtis Granderson walked & Juan Lagares singled. Lucas Duda provided the game winning hit with an RBI single.
Thursday April 23rd: On a chilly afternoon matinee at Citi, centerfieldmaz, Pie & the two UFs attended the final game of one of the most successful homestands the Mets ever had.
Today was Bartolo Colon exciting the crowd with his fourth straight win to go 4-0. Jeurys Familia earned his eighth save during the eleven game win streak.
In the home 1st, the Braves Julio Teheran walked three batters & Daniel Murphy's double cleared the bases making it 3-0 Mets. The game was tied up in the 5th, but Curtis Granderson singled & Braves pitching issued three walks in the inning, putting the Mets ahead.
In the 7th inning, after centerfieldmaz was on the giant video screen winning concert tickets from Citi Field host Christina, the Mets added to the lead. Juan Lagares & Lucas Duda singled.
Then Michael Cuddyer grounded out & Lagres scored. Pitcher Luis Avilan then balked, sending Cuddyer to third. Daniel Murphy then singled in the final run, capping off the 6-3 Mets win.
The Mets got off to the clubs best start at 13-3 since the 1986 Championship team. They were in first place with the best record in baseball & finished off the best home stand the club ever had.
