Remembering Mets History (2017): Mets Come From Six Runs Down To Defeat Marlins

Friday May 5th 2017: The injury plagued New York Mets who had Noah Syndergaard, Steven Matz, Seth Lugo, Lucas Duda, Yoenis Cespedes & the latest casualty Travis d'Arnaud all out on injury, were back home at Citi Field after a rain drenched afternoon in New York.

The Mets (13-15)  were playing better scoring more runs had won five of their last even games, hosted the Miami Marlins (12-16) in front of 25,618.

Starting Lineups

The Mets scored first with a 1st inning T.J. Rivera solo shot to left field. But the Marlins scored quickly to tie it up on Marcell Ozuna's RBI single.

Then they beat up starter Rafael Montero & reliever Josh Smoker in the 4th inning, with six singles & three RBI doubles by Giancarlo Stanton, Justin Bour & Miguel Rojas, making it a 7-1 Marlin blow out.

But the Mets fought back, in the 4th after Jay Bruce was hit by a pitch, Curtis Granderson hit his second HR of the year making it a four run deficient 7-3. The Marlins stranded runners on third base in both the 5th & 6th innings, as Fernando Salas & Hansel Robles pitched out of jams.

In the 7th inning the Mets struck with a mighty vengeance, Wilmer Flores singled, Jose


Reyes doubled. Rene Rivera & pinch hitter Asdrubal Cabrera then both singled making it a 7-5 game.

Michael Conforto then singled with the Mets fifth straight hit. The hot hitting T.J. Rivera doubled to left field, bringing home Rivera & Cabrera tying up the game.

After Jay Bruce & Neil Walker struck out, reliever Kyle Barraclough walked Wilmer Flores the 11th man to bat in the inning, bringing home what turned out to be the winning run.


Addison Reed pitched a scoreless 8th & Jeurys Familia closed it out with a 1-2-3 top of the 9th inning for his third save of the year.

Trivia: The Mets scored five runs or more for the eighth straight game. The sixth run come back was their largest of the year so far.
