Tom Slater: Mets Assistant Hitting Coach (2018-2020)
Thomas Slater was born April 6th 1968 in Richmond Virginia. Slater attended the Virginia Military Institute where he played baseball as a pitcher & third baseman.
In his final year he won 24 games & also served as coach. At the end of his college career he ranked in the schools top five in RBIs, doubles, runs & total bases.
He never played at the minor or big league level.
Slater was a collegiate coach for 17 years, coaching for Virginia Military Institute (2001-2003) University of Florida (2004) & Auburn (1995-2000 & 2005-2008).
He then joined the A.L. New York clubs organization in 2009, managing at the Rookie League level & with the Staten Island A ball team in 2011. He then joined the AA Trenton Thunder in 2012 & again in 2017. He became a roving instructor for two years & then off to the advanced Florida State league.
In 2018 he joined the New York Mets organization. In 2019 he was assistant to coach Chili Davis & will return in that role in 2020.
Family: Tom & his wife Beth have two children.
