Sean Manaea: 2024 Mets Wild Card Champions Top Pitcher (2024 - 2025)

Sean Anthony Manaea was born February 1st, 1992, at Valparaiso, Indiana. His father Faalodi, is an American Samoan who met his wife, Opal, Sean's mother while stationed in Indiana during the Vietnam War. Sean did not visit Samoa until 2014 & began to embrace the culture. Nickname: Sean is known as "the throwin' Samoan". In 2013, Manaea was a first-round draft pick of the Kansa City Royals. MLB Career: In July 2015, he was traded to the Oakland A's for Ben Zobrist. Manaea spent six seasons in Oakland, making his debut in 2016 going 7-9 with a 3.86 ERA.  Over the next two seasons he was a 12-game winner each time, with a 4.36 ERA & 3.59 ERA respectively. He is just one of five pitchers in Oakland history to have at least five straight winning seasons. Kodai Senga - "The Ghost Fork" Mets Pitcher (2023 - 2025)

Kodai Senga was born January 30, 1993, in Gamagori on the island of Honshu in Japan. The six-foot two right hander has a three-quarter delivery with a fastball that averages 96mph & can top out at 100mph. He masters a tricky forkball, known as "Ghost Fork" in Japan. He also throws a cutter & slider. Senga has been a pitcher since his high school days. In 1993 at the age of 17 he was drafted as a developmental player by the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks of the Nippon Professional Baseball League.  The Developmental Player System: allows a player to be held for the purpose of training  separately from the registered players under control of a team in the Nipon Pro League (NPL).  By 2012 he signed a $4.4 million deal to be under the team's control. Benny Ayala: The First Mets Player To HR In His First Career At Bat (1974 / 1976)

Benigno Ayala was born on February 7, 1951, in Yauco, Puerto Rico, the six-foot right hand hitting outfielder was signed as an amateur free agent by the New York Mets in 1971.  He was a highly touted outfield prospect with a reputation for hitting with power in the minor leagues. In 1972  at A ball Visalia,  Ayala hit 19 HRs second  on the club to Ike Hampton. He drove in 66 runs second to Greg Harts. He followed with 17 HRs the next year at AA Memphis.  In 1974 Ayala was with AAA Tidewater batting .274, leading the club with 11 HRs 21 doubles & 40 RBIs. He was invited to Mets Spring Training 1974 where he hit HRs off Bob Gibson & Woodie Fryman. The Mets thought of moving Cleon Jones to left field to make room for Ayala but that didn't work out, so Ayala started the year at AAA.
